Unfortunately colitis is a disease which will follow a person throughout his or her life. It’s impossible to say with certainty when a bout will occur, but those who have success living with colitis have learned to keep an watchful eye on symptoms. For a severe bout the ulcerative colitis treatments of choice are drugs. Anti inflammatory drugs are generally the first course of treatment. Sometimes prednisone or other steroids are used to relieve inflammation. Some immune system suppressors may be used in more serious cases. No matter the choice of drug treatment following a proper colitis diet is of the utmost importance.
