Job growth for a pharmacy tech is expected to increase by 32 percent by 2016, according the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook. This growth is considered much faster than any other occupation within the same time frame. This is not surprising, given the number of baby boomers entering retirement, some with long-term health issues who require more prescription drugs. Add to this, people are living longer than during any other time in history. Moreover, pharmacy technicians will be needed to fill more prescriptions as advanced treatments in medicine emerge. Responsibilities will also increase, such as routine Pharmacists’ tasks and administrative duties.
