There are 4 really nasty worms that can adversly affect your dog. They are: Hookworms, Tapeworms, Roundworms, and Whipworm.
You want to get rid of parasites like these worms as quickly as you can.
Hookworms cause anemia and loss of appetite in your dog. They can be passed by a mother dog to her puppies during the nursing period and even before their birth.
Your dog can get tapeworms from swallowing fleas. There are few symptoms for tapeworms, th emain one being small, rice-like pieces in your dogs poop. This is another good reason why its always a good idea to bring stool samples to your vet when its time for your dogs yearly checkup.
Roundworms cause cause nasty stuff in your dog like pneumonia, diarrhea, and vomiting. A dog with roundworms may display a pot belly.
If your dog is infected with whipworms it can have diarrhea, stool mucus, serious bowel inflammations along with weight loss.
